First Quarter 2025: Tangible Results in Protecting the Caribbean Sea
During the first months of 2025, Eco-Bahia foundation, through its SAK Program, carried out significant marine conservation actions in partnership with collaborators from Bahia Principe Riviera Maya and local organizations such as Tulum Circula and COLILLARTE.
Thanks to the participation of 55 volunteers, cleanup campaigns were held at Playa Aventuras DIF and the Xcacel-Xcacelito Reserve, where more than 218 kg of marine debris were collected and sorted, including:
• Microplastics and nurdles
• Cigarette butts (1.5 kg donated to COLILLARTE)
• Construction materials
• Single-use containers and plastics
• Personal hygiene products
These cleanups not only restore natural spaces but also strengthen the community’s bond with its environment, fostering environmental awareness through action.
As part of the program’s educational strategy, Eco-Bahia and the Social Responsibility area of the resort have established a monthly waste sorting event aimed at:
• Identifying the most common waste found on the beaches
• Promoting proper management and recycling
• Raising awareness about the impact of daily consumption on the marine environment
“Every piece of waste sorted is an opportunity to change habits and sow awareness,” said Luis Verdin, Manager of Eco-Bahia foundation.
The results of the SAK Program have been shared with international organizations such as World Cleanup Day, Ocean Conservancy, and Nurdle Patrol, contributing valuable information for research and mitigation of marine pollution on a global scale.
From beach cleanups to environmental education, Eco-Bahia works every day for a cleaner and more conscious Caribbean. The foundation invites the community to join this mission through:
