Responsible tourism and environmental awareness

Grupo Piñero, aligned with its commitment to the environment and the fight against climate change, has designed a set of simple actions that any traveler can apply during their vacations. This initiative is part of the “We are ecocentric” movement, which encourages reflection on the impact of our consumption habits and how to transform them in favor of the planet.

After a year marked by the covid-19 pandemic, travelers are increasingly aware of the footprint they leave on the environment. Sector trends point to ecotourism and regenerative tourism, models that promote responsible and sustainable travel experiences. In fact, a survey conducted by the UAB Master’s in Travel Journalism together with IATI reveals that 8 out of 10 young people are concerned about the impact of tourism on the planet.

The sustainable vacation decalogue

With more than 40 years of experience, Grupo Piñero created this decalogue under the framework of its “We are ecocentrics” movement, with 10 practical recommendations that everyone can implement during their holidays:

1. Use biodegradable or reef-friendly sunscreen.
2. Control your water use: reuse towels, turn off the tap, and use water savers.
3. Take advantage of natural light and turn off lights when leaving the room.
4. Stay on marked trails and avoid damaging vegetation.
5. Recycle whenever possible.
6. Choose local products and responsible brands.
7. Plant trees or plants in your surroundings.
8. Reduce unnecessary consumption of clothes, electronics, or cosmetics.
9. Practice sustainable tourism by supporting responsible companies.
10. Think about the planet you want to leave for future generations.

Grupo Piñero’s global commitment

Grupo Piñero manages 27 hotels, residential complexes in Spain, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica, 4 golf courses integrated into natural surroundings, 7 km of Caribbean beaches, and more than 13 million square meters of land. Through these spaces, the group promotes its environmental sustainability strategy while engaging collaborators, clients, and local communities.

The “We are ecocentric” movement seeks to awaken the most conscious and responsible side of every person. The philosophy is based on recognizing that human beings are naturally selfish, but that same instinct can be redirected toward positive actions for the planet’s preservation. With every decision, no matter how small, we contribute to a global movement that protects the environment we all share.
