From October 21 to 23, the 21st Sea Turtle Festival was successfully held in Tulum, an event that fosters community engagement and raises awareness about sea turtle conservation. Over the years, this festival has become one of the most important gatherings in the region for educating and protecting these endangered species.
The event took place across three main locations: Akumal, Tulum, and Xcacel, focusing on interaction with the community under the theme “Working together with the community for sea turtles”. The festival brought together organizations, authorities, and citizens committed to protecting these emblematic animals of the Caribbean coast.
Over three days, attendees enjoyed cultural and recreational activities that combined learning with entertainment. Highlights included the release of sea turtle hatchlings, educational talks, workshops, and art exhibitions — all aimed at reinforcing the importance of preserving marine habitats.
Commitment and Hope for the Future
“Each year, the Sea Turtle Festival becomes a testament to our community’s commitment to protecting these very special marine creatures,” stated Yuritzi Espino.
This edition demonstrated that community unity is essential for conservation. Together with Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts, Eco-Bahia continues working to protect sea turtles not only in Tulum but throughout the region and beyond. We look forward to the next edition to continue advancing this important mission!
