As part of its mission to preserve coastal ecosystems in the Dominican Republic, the Eco-Bahia foundation continues to grow its network of strategic partners. In a new milestone, Eco-Bahia has launched a collaboration with Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (AERODOM) to protect key sea turtle nesting beaches in Samaná.

A Working Session for Biodiversity Protection

During the first joint working session between Eco-Bahia and AERODOM, a clear roadmap was developed to guide the implementation of environmental protection projects in sensitive areas near the El Catey International Airport, particularly Las Majaguas Beach, which is recognized as a critical nesting site for sea turtles.

The meeting brought together:

  • Representatives from AERODOM’s Corporate Social Responsibility team
  • Directors of the Eco-Bahia foundation
  • Members of the Dominican Ministry of Environment

Key intervention points were identified to protect both the nesting areas and the species that depend on them for survival.

Active Sea Turtle Conservation

This new partnership strengthens the Coastal Marine Ecosystem Conservation Project led by Eco-Bahia, which includes:

  • Monitoring and assistance for nesting females
  • Nest management and maintenance
  • Tracking hatchlings during the emergence period
  • Nest counting and mapping for scientific research

These actions are essential to increasing sea turtle survival rates and preserving the natural habitats that sustain marine biodiversity.

A Model for Environmental Collaboration

The alliance between Eco-Bahia and AERODOM is a powerful example of how environmental organizations, the airport sector, and public institutions can work together to create a positive impact on biodiversity conservation.

Beyond protecting an iconic species, this initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and reinforces Samaná’s role as a sustainable tourism destination committed to environmental stewardship.

Sea turtle conservation

With this new partnership, the Eco-Bahia foundation reinforces its leadership in sea turtle conservation in the Dominican Republic and its ongoing work to protect coastal ecosystems. By partnering with organizations like AERODOM, Eco-Bahia expands the reach and effectiveness of its conservation programs.

Because protecting the future of sea turtles means protecting the future of our planet.
