An inspiring start in Uxuxubi

A weekend full of outdoor activities marked the successful debut of the first ECO-active Camp in Uxuxubi. Organized by Eco-Bahia foundation in collaboration with Cenotes Urbanos, Cielos Oscuros, and Fauna Silvestre y Mascotas, the event aimed to foster people’s connection with nature.

The experience began with a talk and crocodile-watching session led by MVZ Ricardo Flores. “It was an honor to be part of this event that promotes environmental education and conservation. We shared valuable information about crocodiles and their importance in the local ecosystem,” noted Yuritzi Espino, Manager of Eco-Bahia.

Exploring biodiversity

The day continued with a “bug session” led by biologist Roberto Rojo, where participants learned fascinating facts about the diverse species that inhabit Uxuxubi.

As night fell, an astronomy session guided by Dr. Vicente allowed attendees to enjoy a sky free of light pollution, exploring the Milky Way and observing Jupiter and Saturn.

Connection with nature at dawn

The second day included a morning hike along Uxuxubi’s trails, accompanied by the songs of local birds. This activity offered participants a close-up experience of the region’s rich wildlife.

In parallel, a biodiversity survey was conducted on platforms such as eBird and iNaturalist, generating valuable records to enhance knowledge of the area’s natural wealth.

Community and environmental education

The enthusiasm of the participants—among them young people and children—enriched this event, which was open to all nature lovers. Environmental education and the celebration of biodiversity were the cornerstones of the camp, driven by Eco-Bahia foundation and its partners.
Eco-Bahia foundation extends its gratitude to all nature enthusiasts who made this unique experience in Uxuxubi possible.
