Eco-Bahia carried out a cleanup day in the town of Chemuyil, Tulum Municipality, collecting over 70 kilos of solid waste, including plastic bottles, cardboard, and cans. This initiative aims to raise community awareness about proper waste separation using the designated containers.
As part of its environmental initiatives, the foundation works closely with the community, civil associations, companies, and local authorities. During the cleanup, residents were encouraged to properly manage the waste generated in their daily lives and avoid mixing hazardous or infectious biological waste with regular trash.
A brief educational session was held on waste separation, demonstrating how to use the municipality’s covered containers to prevent spills and protect local wildlife, both wild and domestic. This promotes responsible and sustainable habits within the community.
Following all Covid-19 safety protocols, Eco-Bahia, in coordination with local authorities and citizens of Chemuyil, successfully collected more than 70 kilos of solid waste, including plastic bottles, metal cans, cardboard, and general trash.
“One of the Foundation’s main goals is to lead by example, educating children to develop the habit of separating waste, caring for nature, and applying the 3Rs: reduce, reuse, and recycle,” said Katia Cordourier, director of the Eco-Bahia.
These activities help maintain the scenic beauty of the area, encourage environmental care, and reinforce proper solid waste separation, raising community awareness to prevent pollution and protect local flora and fauna.
