Eco-Bahia foundation, promoted by Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts and with more than 20 years of work in Mexico, begins the year by strengthening its *Environmental Education program. Its mission is to transmit knowledge and values to society in order to foster responsible habits that protect the natural environment.
“Our program aims to raise awareness about environmental challenges and provide people with the tools to prevent and solve them, through sensitization, values, and participation,” explained Yuritzi Espino, Manager of Eco-Bahia foundation.
Volunteering and connection with nature
One of the key activities was the integration with the Akumal Ecological Center (CEA), where 13 volunteers from different regions of the country participated in environmental interpretation experiences at the “Tumben-Lúum” nature center. From the observation tower, participants highlighted the central message of the day: “care, protect, and conserve.”
Direct interaction with the jungle allowed participants to learn about native species such as the Chechén and the Chakáh, sparking admiration for the natural richness of the peninsula and reinforcing the importance of biodiversity conservation.
The foundation also participated in the 6th Environmental Education Forum under the theme Water, actions against climate change, which addressed the impacts of climate change on water resources. The event featured a keynote lecture by Dr. Leticia Gómez Mendoza from the UNAM College of Geography.
Additionally, Eco-Bahia joined the “Regional Forum on Environmental Education” with the theme Raising awareness through science, values, and participation. This virtual event brought together 699 participants from across the Yucatán Peninsula to promote the responsible use of natural resources.
Conscious Cinema: education through art
To commemorate the International Day of Environmental Education, the foundation inaugurated Conscious Cinema at the “Tumben-Lúum” center. This space showcases short films that invite audiences to reflect, empathize with nature, and broaden their vision of why it must be respected and cared for.
“We are pleased to see our actions reflected in these events, which integrate us into joint efforts with institutions, governments, and civil society. We will continue building alliances to ensure our initiatives have a greater impact,” concluded Yuritzi Espino.
