Most frequent visitors

At Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts, we share our surroundings with wonderful wildlife. Two of the most frequent visitors are coatis and raccoons: curious, agile, and charming… but they must be respected in their natural freedom.

Meet the coatis

  • Scientific name: Nasua narica
  • Close relatives of raccoons. They can be recognized by their elongated snout and their ringed tail, which they always carry upright like a flag
  • They are diurnal, live in groups, and are expert climbers. They love to dig in search of fruits and insects

Discover the raccoons

  • Scientific name: Procyon lotor
  • They are nocturnal and very intelligent. They are known for their dark mask and their ability to open almost anything with their nimble hands
  • They are omnivores and opportunists: they eat fruits, eggs, insects, small animals… always adapting to their environment
Why shouldn’t we feed them?

1. We protect their health: Human food is not suitable for them and can cause illness
2. We preserve their natural behavior: If they get used to receiving food, they will stop looking for it themselves
3. We avoid risks: If they lose their fear, they may get too close, cause accidents, or even defend themselves if they feel threatened
4. We protect the ecosystem: Each species has a role in nature. Altering their diet disrupts the natural balance

💚 Your actions matter

By not feeding them, you help coatis and raccoons remain free, healthy animals, part of a unique natural environment that we all come to enjoy.

Admire them, respect them, protect them.
Your best memory will be seeing them in their habitat… being themselves.
