Eco-Bahia strengthens its commitment against plastic pollution

Plastic pollution in the oceans is one of the greatest environmental challenges of our time. Aware of the urgency to act, the Eco-Bahia foundation continues to support sustainable initiatives that help reduce this impact and promote a cleaner future for all.

According to Alex Matas, Director of the Eco-Bahia foundation:

“We firmly believe that these stations are not only spaces for waste collection but also drivers of social awareness and behavioral change. The challenge now is to empower citizens to make use of the circular stations, bring their waste already separated, or adapt to municipal collection routes.”

Circular stations: an innovative solution for waste management

To address this challenge, one of the foundation’s proposals is to develop educational programs for schools and communities, supported by a communication campaign in collaboration with local municipalities. The goal is to encourage the use of these circular stations as part of a collective solution that reduces the presence of plastics in marine ecosystems.

Education, community, and sustainable tourism: a shared path

Beyond the installation of circular stations, the work of the Eco-Bahia Foundation seeks to generate a cultural shift involving residents, visitors, and stakeholders in the tourism sector. Environmental education becomes a key tool to raise awareness from an early age, while collaboration with Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts strengthens the link between sustainable tourism and marine conservation. This synergy demonstrates that it is possible to provide high-quality tourism experiences while protecting biodiversity and promoting a circular economy that reduces waste and improves the health of our oceans.
