An educational tour through nature

To conclude a month dedicated to environmental education, the Eco-Bahia ecological foundation welcomed a group of students from the Hekab Be Library, an organization that promotes literacy and learning opportunities in Quintana Roo. Accompanied by their teachers and Bahia Principe collaborators, the children toured natural areas, mangroves, beaches, and the Nature Interpretation Center at Bahia Principe Riviera Maya Resort.

During the visit, the students learned about the value of the region’s ecosystems, from the richness of the Mayan jungle and its biodiversity to the vital role of mangroves and the sea. Katia Courdurier, director of the Eco-Bahia foundation, highlighted the importance of showing children “the wonders of nature and the need to protect every ecosystem.”

Comprehensive education and community commitment

Hekab Be Library offers the community a free extracurricular program that includes English, music, art, Maya language and culture, natural sciences, environmental education, organic gardening, and homework assistance. These activities aim to keep children engaged in learning, motivating them to stay in school and opening more opportunities for their future.

The collaboration with Eco-Bahia strengthens this mission by providing direct contact with nature and reinforcing environmental awareness as an essential part of children’s education.

October: a month to celebrate life and ecosystems

Eco-Bahia also marked several key environmental dates in October. World Animal Day (October 4) was an occasion to reflect on the importance of each species for the planet’s health and the need to conserve their habitats.

They also observed World Habitat Day, emphasizing that not only humans need a dignified place to live, but also the animals and plants that form part of ecosystems. Despite public and private efforts, habitat loss continues to threaten biodiversity and cause species extinction.

Taking action against climate change

On October 24, the foundation joined in the observance of International Day Against Climate Change, underscoring how this global challenge accelerates the disappearance of plants and animals. With these activities, Eco-Bahia reaffirms its commitment to raising awareness about environmental challenges and inspiring action to protect the planet.
