Grupo Piñero continues to advance its model of sustainable and efficient environmental management, aligned with its commitment to the environment and the fight against climate change. In 2020, it invested 8 million euros in projects focused on decarbonization, energy efficiency, responsible resource management, and biodiversity promotion in its territories.
A significant part of this investment was dedicated to the Comprehensive Coastal Management Plan (PGIL), developed in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica. In addition, as part of its sustainability strategy, the company launched the “We are ecocentric” movement, inviting everyone to care for a planet that belongs to us all.
The Spanish tourism group, with more than 40 years of history, bases its environmental management model on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, it carried out internal audits to ensure compliance across all its units and strengthened continuous improvement procedures.
Its strategy relies on innovation and the use of renewable energy with Guarantee of Origin, already introduced in its offices and hotels in Spain. With this, Grupo Piñero aims to reduce its carbon emissions by 60% by 2024, optimize water use through responsible management and reuse, and promote biodiversity in the ecosystems where it operates.
The preservation of ecosystems such as beaches, mangroves, cenotes, and forests is a cornerstone of Grupo Piñero’s management. In 2020, it carried out landscaping projects with native species at Bahia Principe Grand Portillo and Playa Nueva Romana, and produced more than 15,000 plants, 90% of which were protected species, in collaboration with Eco-Bahia.
These initiatives reinforce the company’s commitment to biodiversity protection and the harmonious integration of its hotels and residential complexes with the natural environment.
The PGIL structures its environmental actions around four programs: Water, Biodiversity, Landscape, and Beaches, with the goal of ensuring sustainability in the destinations where it operates. This plan has enabled the development of local strategies to conserve natural resources and protect coastal ecosystems in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica.
Through this management model, Grupo Piñero strengthens its role as an active agent in the conservation of high-value ecological territories.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, Grupo Piñero launched the “We are ecocentric” movement, aimed at collaborators, clients, and local communities. The initiative seeks to awaken the most “ecocentric” side of every person, transforming the natural instinct of caring for what is ours into concrete actions to preserve the planet.
With 27 hotels, several residential complexes, four golf courses, and 7 km of Caribbean beaches, Grupo Piñero embraces its responsibility toward the environment. The concept of ecocentric reflects that by wanting the best for ourselves and our families, we must also want the best for the planet.
