A Partnership for Nature and Knowledge
With the goal of promoting scientific research, environmental education, and the conservation of key ecosystems in the Dominican Republic, Eco-Bahia has signed an important agreement with the Dr. Rafael M. Moscoso National Botanical Garden.
This alliance will foster joint programs for the conservation and propagation of native and endemic plant species, with special attention to those with ornamental potential, which will be incorporated into sustainable landscaping projects across Grupo Piñero’s resorts in Samaná, San Pedro de Macorís, and Bávaro.
The collaboration includes the creation of specialized nurseries, seed collection expeditions, and the propagation of native plants for conservation purposes. It will also support scientific research projects focused on publication and knowledge generation.
Additionally, the agreement establishes training workshops, technical talks, and the design of interpretive trails that encourage environmental education among employees, students, and visitors.
During the signing ceremony, Isabel Piñero, Chair of Grupo Piñero’s Family Council, highlighted:
“For us, this agreement reflects the essence of who we are as a family business: a company committed to the sustainable development of the destinations where we operate and the preservation of the natural wealth of the Dominican Republic. Biodiversity conservation not only protects our environment but also creates long-term value for the community and the country.”
Likewise, Alex Matás Navarro, Director of Eco-Bahia in the Dominican Republic, emphasized that “this agreement reaffirms our commitment to science and the conservation of the country’s natural heritage. The collaboration with the National Botanical Garden marks a key step toward a more sustainable future for Dominican biodiversity.”
Engineer Pedro Nolasco, General Director of the National Botanical Garden, described the initiative as “a unique opportunity to strengthen applied research while raising awareness about the importance of native flora for the country’s sustainable future.”
Through this alliance, Eco-Bahia and the National Botanical Garden go beyond the formal signing of an agreement. They establish a long-term collaboration built on knowledge exchange, scientific innovation, and environmental responsibility — reinforcing the Dominican Republic’s leadership in biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
