In a key step for sea turtle conservation in the Dominican Republic, the Eco-Bahia foundation has joined the newly established National Sea Turtle Network— a strategic alliance that brings together government institutions, foundations, and private companies to safeguard these emblematic species.
An Inter-Institutional Alliance to Protect Sea Turtles
The National Sea Turtle Network was created with the objective of fostering cooperation, standardizing technical processes, and developing national strategies for conservation. The Eco-Bahia foundation is now part of this initiative alongside leading organizations such as:
• Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources
• Grupo Puntacana Foundation
• Dominican Foundation for Marine Studies (FUNDEMAR)
• National Aquarium
• Alamos Travel
• Grupo Piñero (represented by the Eco-Bahia foundation)
During the official signing ceremony, Evelyn Koury, Legal Director of Grupo Piñero in the Dominican Republic, signed the Memorandum of Understanding. Also present were Alex Matas, Director of the Eco-Bahia Foundation, and Daniel Aurelio Reyes, Coordinator of the Sea Turtle Conservation Program.
This inter-institutional collaboration reinforces the commitment to the protection and preservation of sea turtles, which are vital for maintaining ecological balance and marine biodiversity in the region. With this initiative, the Eco-Bahia foundation reaffirms its mission to conserve sea turtles across all its destinations, joining efforts to ensure the survival of these species.
