Discover the achievements of the 2024
The Eco-Bahia foundation successfully celebrated the closing ceremony of the 2024 Sea Turtle Nesting Season at Playa Aventuras DIF, highlighting its firm commitment to marine conservation in the Riviera Maya.
The event honored the invaluable support of Bahia Principe Riviera Maya Resort, Tulum Country Club, technicians, and university students who worked tirelessly to protect sea turtles throughout the season.
By October 31, the program achieved outstanding numbers:
- Protected nests: 1,196 (460 loggerhead nests Caretta caretta and 736 green/white turtle nests Chelonia mydas).
- Released hatchlings: 93,159 (38,019 loggerheads and 55,140 green/white turtles).
- Tagged females: 116 adult turtles tagged during the season.
The project was supported by 4 field technicians and 5 Environmental Engineering students from Universidad Autónoma de Chiapas (UNACH), who completed their professional internships between June and July 2024.
Luis Verdín, Manager of the Eco-Bahia foundation, stated:
“These results prove what we can achieve by working together for such a noble cause. I thank every person who has contributed their time and effort, because without you we would not have reached this positive impact on sea turtle conservation.”
Eco-Bahia reaffirms its commitment to protecting sea turtles and their nesting beaches. Thanks to teamwork and environmental education, more and more hatchlings reach the sea every year, strengthening the biodiversity of the Riviera Maya.
