Grupo Piñero has taken a major step in reinforcing its sustainability strategy by officially opening the main office of the Eco-Bahia foundation in the Dominican Republic. This initiative reflects the group’s goal of extending its social and environmental responsibility across its destinations by promoting environmental education and the conservation of natural resources.
Located in Pueblo Principe Village, in the province of Samaná, the new headquarters will serve as the operational hub for developing the foundation’s national environmental strategies. As Alex Matas, Director of Eco-Bahia, explained:
“This is a big step. Creating a physical space where we can develop and manage our nationwide action plans allows us to not only expand our programs but also create a place for collaboration with NGOs, local and international authorities. It will also serve as an open consultation and advisory center on environmental issues for citizens, companies, and government institutions.”
The official opening ceremony was led by Isabel Piñero, Chief Sustainability Officer of Grupo Piñero, alongside Alex Matas, Director of the foundation, and Matías Colombo, Institutional Development DR at Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts. The event was attended by representatives of local authorities in Samaná, executives from the hotel group, members of the Piñero family, and partner organizations from the region.
The creation of this office strengthens Eco-Bahia’s commitment to sustainable development, aligned with global environmental goals focused on biodiversity protection, ecosystem restoration, and the promotion of a responsible environmental culture in the Dominican Republic.
- Local Engagement: A central meeting point for NGOs, institutions, and citizens to collaborate on conservation initiatives.
- Environmental Education: A space for workshops, public talks, and expert consultations on biodiversity and sustainability.
- Strategic Management: An operations hub for programs like sea turtle protection, reforestation, and biodiversity monitoring.
With the opening of this new office, the Eco-Bahia foundation reaffirms its role as a key environmental actor in the Caribbean. This marks the beginning of a new chapter—one that promises greater impact, wider outreach, and stronger collaborations for responsible tourism and a healthier planet.
