By the end of September 2020, the Eco-Bahia foundation successfully protected 2,110 nests and released 102,089 sea turtle hatchlings, a species at risk of extinction. The 2020 season of the Sea Turtle Protection and Conservation Program has been one of the most successful in recent years.
For 20 years, the Eco-Bahia foundation Bahia Principe Tulum, A.C. has carried out this program at Playa Aventuras, nationally recognized as the most important beach for loggerhead turtle nesting.
“As every year, we continue working on this comprehensive program to protect and conserve an endangered species. This has been possible thanks to rigorous procedures and the support of all our collaborators and volunteers,” said Katia Cordourier, director of the Eco-Bahia foundation.
Despite challenges caused by the pandemic and following strict health and safety protocols, the foundation has successfully protected thousands of nests and ensured the release of over 102,000 hatchlings, contributing to the preservation of species that have inhabited Earth for over 100 million years.
Commitment to conservation
“We know there is still much to do, but we are present and will continue working together for sea turtle conservation,” concluded the director of Eco-Bahia, reaffirming the commitment of the program and Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts to protecting marine biodiversity in the Riviera Maya.
