Eco-Bahia foundation, operating for over 15 years, runs the “Sea Turtle Protection and Conservation Program” at Playa Aventuras, nationally recognized as the most important beach for Loggerhead turtle nesting.
This 1.5 km stretch of coastline can host over a thousand sea turtle nests each year, of the Loggerhead and White species, both endangered. It is therefore crucial to implement actions that ensure the survival of these iconic species for future generations.
By the end of May, a total of 113 Loggerhead and White turtle nests were protected. “Our efforts focus on an integrated approach that consolidates us as one of the most important programs due to the continuity and quality of the data collected on the beach. This has been possible thanks to rigorous procedures that support natural processes while accommodating the high tourism activity in the area,” said Yuritzi Espino, Manager of Eco-Bahia foundation.
Commitment to environmental education and new strategies
For the rest of the year, Eco-Bahia will continue developing new conservation and environmental education programs, involving staff and students with the same commitment and dedication that have defined the foundation’s work for over 15 years. Conservation and the implementation of strategies to mitigate environmental impact will remain the program’s main objectives.
