Record Season for Sea Turtle Conservation

Eco-Bahia has released preliminary results for the 2025 Sea Turtle Protection and Conservation Season, highlighting Playa Aventuras DIF as the beach with the highest number of Loggerhead Turtle nests in Mexico. This key index beach continues to strengthen its role in Caribbean scientific research thanks to its high nesting volume, long-term monitoring, and high-quality data collection.

These efforts have made it possible to effectively protect Loggerhead (Caretta caretta) and Green/White Turtle (Chelonia mydas) populations, ensuring their survival against environmental threats and reinforcing the foundation’s leadership in marine conservation.

Key Results

Although the season is still ongoing, early data is remarkable: 1,678 nests recorded, including 474 Loggerhead nests and 1,204 Green/White Turtle nests. A total of 142,947 hatchlings have been released into the ocean—41,879 Loggerheads and 101,068 Green/White Turtles. The program also reports an impressive 96% success rate in turtle sightings.

As part of the tagging program led by the Flora, Fauna and Culture of Mexico Association, 172 steel-monel tags were applied, strengthening scientific tracking and identification of sea turtles.

Academic Collaboration and Community Participation

The operational team included five specialized field technicians, supported by five Environmental Engineering students from the Universidad Autónoma de Chiapas (UNACH), who completed their professional internships during June and July. Eco-Bahia also took part in the 23rd edition of the Sea Turtle Festival, as well as municipal and state committees dedicated to their protection.

With over 26 years of continuous effort, this program has become a conservation model that integrates science, community involvement, and environmental education—positioning Playa Aventuras DIF as a national reference in wildlife protection.

Commitment to Conservation and Regenerative Tourism

Luis Verdín, Manager of Eco-Bahia Mexico, noted: “Playa Aventuras DIF reminds us every day of the enormous responsibility we hold as guardians of one of the Caribbean’s most iconic species. Each protected nest and each released hatchling fuels our determination to continue working with science and dedication.”

The foundation expresses its deep gratitude to the field technicians, students, volunteers, and partners who make this program possible year after year, contributing to the success of the 2025 Nesting Season.

A Call to Action to Protect Marine Life

These efforts reinforce Eco-Bahia’s role as a regional leader in regenerative tourism and natural capital conservation. The organization invites the community, travelers, partners, and guests of Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts to join this mission by making donations through the official website:
