As part of the annual “Trees and Seas” initiative, presented by Montes Wines and organized by Plastic Oceans International, Eco-Bahia foundation joined a major reforestation effort on September 23 in Uxuxubí. The program focuses on planting over 250,000 trees to highlight the importance of forest conservation.
Eco-Bahia contributed by donating 100 native tree specimens and actively participating in the planting activities, reinforcing the foundation’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable restoration.
Community collaboration for reforestation
More than 80 participants—including government authorities, civil associations, academics, and local citizens—joined forces to plant approximately 300 trees, helping restore areas affected by fires in the Uxuxubí community. This collaborative effort supports the recovery of local ecosystems and strengthens community awareness.
“We thank the Centro Ecológico Akumal (CEA) for inviting us to participate, and Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts for providing refreshments and fruit for everyone involved. We know that great achievements come from small actions, and together we can reach bigger goals,” said Yuritzi Espino, Manager of Eco-Bahia foundation.
This action aligns with Grupo Piñero’s “One Person, One Tree” campaign, launched in June, which aims to plant 14,000 trees over the next year to restore degraded areas in the destinations where the group operates, as part of its environmental policy.
Isabel Piñero, Chief Sustainability Officer of Grupo Piñero, highlighted: “Initiatives like ‘Trees & Seas’ allow us to work collaboratively toward a common goal—protecting our planet. ‘One Person, One Tree’ is a clear example of our commitment to creating positive, tangible environmental impact.”
Strategic sustainability for the future
The initiative is part of Grupo Piñero’s 2022-2030 Sustainability Strategic Plan, under the “Planet” pillar, which focuses on all actions related to environmental care and protection. Eco-Bahia foundation’s involvement demonstrates the importance of linking forest and marine conservation for a healthier planet and a sustainable future.
