Turtle Release Ceremony in Tulum
The Eco-Bahia Ecological foundation concluded the 2019 turtle nesting season with an emotional ceremony on Tulum Beach. During the event, 120 baby turtles were released into the sea, accompanied by families, guests, and staff from the Bahia Principe Riviera Maya Resort.
Before the release, an environmental education talk was held to raise awareness about the importance of protecting endangered species. Participants learned the key guidelines for handling the turtles, such as not touching them and avoiding flash photography.
Thanks to Eco-Bahia’s efforts, 1,789 nests of loggerhead and green turtles were recorded in 2019, resulting in 157,972 baby turtles released into the ocean. These numbers reflect the ongoing commitment of the foundation and Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts to marine conservation.
Katia Cordourier, Director of the Eco-Bahia foundation, said:
"I want to thank everyone who is part of Eco-Bahia, the support of Bahia Principe executives and staff, and all attendees for this afternoon that will remain in our hearts."
A Heartwarming Farewell to the Sea
At the end of the ceremony, the 120 baby turtles began their journey to the ocean, accompanied by the best wishes of children and adults. This moment symbolizes the hope that more people will get involved in protecting turtles and their natural environment.
The Eco-Bahia foundation continues its mission of environmental education and conservation, inviting everyone to join in preserving endangered marine species.
