Over 10 Kilometers of Coastline Cleaned Thanks to Community Action
The Eco-Bahia foundation reaffirms its commitment to environmental conservation through its SAK program, focused on cleaning beaches and coastal ecosystems in the Riviera Maya.
Throughout 2024, a total of 12 cleanup events were carried out, successfully removing 832.5 kilograms of waste along 10.1 kilometers of beaches and 1 underwater kilometer.
The cleanups covered key areas such as Aventuras DIF, Xcacel-Xcacelito, and residential areas of Chemuyil such as Lol-Beh, engaging local communities and strategic partners.
In addition to removing common waste like plastics, cigarette butts, and bottle caps, the program joined the Nurdle Patrol, collecting 773 plastic pellets and microplastics, which are highly harmful to marine life.
“Each cleanup is a step toward preserving our ecosystems. The commitment of our volunteers and partners is invaluable; together we are building a cleaner and more sustainable future for the next generations,” said Luis Verdin, Manager of the Eco-Bahia foundation in Mexico.
A total of 379 volunteers, including staff, families, and organizations, were key to achieving these results.
The campaign’s success was possible thanks to the support of partners such as Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts, the German International School, ZOFEMAT, Xcaret, and Scubaquatic, who worked hand in hand with the Eco-Bahia foundation.
The removal of over 830 kg of waste from beaches and the elimination of microplastics represent a significant step forward in the protection of marine biodiversity.
The Eco-Bahia deeply thanks every participant in these environmental cleanups, reminding us that conservation is a collective effort.
