Environmental education for children
On the occasion of International Wetlands Day, one of the most important ecosystems for life, biodiversity, and climate, Eco-Bahia foundation conducted an educational conference at Bahia Principe Riviera Maya for students of Primaria Matilde Montoya in Chemuyil.
The goal was to teach children the importance of caring for and conserving natural resources, especially the flora and fauna that inhabit the wetlands of the Yucatán Peninsula.
Wetlands are essential for the present and future of humanity. They provide and purify water, recharge aquifers, ensure biodiversity, and protect us from floods and droughts. Additionally, they act as natural barriers against rising sea levels and climate change.
“Eco-Bahia foundation, as part of its program for environmental education and promotion, regularly gives these talks to children. It is crucial to instill respect and care for nature from an early age. We are delighted by the interest and enthusiasm students show for ecological topics,” said Katia Cordourier, Director of Eco-Bahia.
