Reforesting and Educating in the Local Ecosystem

As part of Grupo Piñero’s “One Person, One Tree” campaign, the Eco-Bahia foundation carried out the reforestation of more than 31 chit palm trees at the Tumben-Lu´um Ecological Interpretation Center. The activity involved children from the Akumal Library, staff, volunteers, visitors, and friends of the foundation.

Additionally, talks were given about the Mayan garden, and participants were taught how to use the iNaturalist app to identify local flora and fauna. The day concluded with a walk to the observation tower to admire the butterfly migration, providing a unique educational and sensory experience for all attendees.

Raising Environmental Awareness in the Community

Eco-Bahia also participated in the 5th Environmental Festival in Playa del Carmen, held during World Environment Day to foster community engagement and environmental awareness. Families enjoyed recreational activities, music, workshops, demonstrations, and more.

At the Eco-Bahia booth, information was shared about conservation programs, environmental education, and how each family can contribute to protecting our environment. Yuritzi Espino, Manager of the Eco-Bahia foundation, emphasized the importance of these actions in inspiring everyone to become more eco-conscious and responsible toward the environment.
