Environmental education for the community
Eco-Bahia foundation celebrated World Environmental Education Day with children and teachers from Centro Comunitario Otoch Paal Montessori in the town of Akumal. During the event, 55 students enjoyed a special breakfast at Bahia Principe Riviera Maya and attended a conference on environmental protection and care.
This day, celebrated on January 26, aims to identify environmental problems at both global and local levels and raise awareness—especially among new generations—about the importance of conserving and protecting our planet.
As every year, Eco-Bahia foundation marked the occasion with a special breakfast and an educational talk led by the school’s director, Maestra Janeth Eunice Be. “There is no way to fully thank you for supporting the children in our community. For 11 years we have relied on your help, and each generation can enjoy this experience,” said the director.
The foundation regularly gives talks on caring for flora, fauna, and the environment. “It is essential to actively participate in the environmental education of future generations. During this breakfast, we shared daily actions to protect our surroundings and taught students to respect nature as an ecosystem that must be preserved,” explained Katia Cordourier, Director of Eco-Bahia.
Origins of World Environmental Education Day
World Environmental Education Day originated from the Declaration of the United Nations Conference on the Environment, held in Stockholm, Sweden, in June 1972. The conference highlighted the importance of caring for the environment and established common principles to guide society in preserving and improving our surroundings.
Celebrating this day reinforces Eco-Bahia foundation mission: to foster environmental awareness from childhood and ensure that each generation understands the importance of protecting our planet.
