Eco-Bahia foundation, together with the Municipality of Tulum officials, celebrated World Environmental Education Day at the Jacinto Pat Library. During the event, participants agreed on several initiatives to promote environmental education and protect the environment in the community.
Each participant received native and ornamental plants to plant in their workplaces, serving as a reminder of the importance of caring for our surroundings and maintaining an ongoing environmental commitment in every community.
January 26 is celebrated to raise awareness about the delicate balance between human development and planet conservation. Environmental education helps people understand the importance of protecting local flora, fauna, and ecosystems while encouraging participation in global initiatives such as the We are ecocentric movement by Grupo Piñero.
During the event, officials from the Municipality of Tulum and Eco-Bahia Director Katia Cordourier reaffirmed their commitment to implementing actions that promote environmental care in workplaces and communities, reminding everyone that we are all part of this planet.
Six key principles were established:
1. Raise environmental awareness.
2. Share knowledge.
3. Adopt value-based attitudes according to each participant’s area of expertise.
4. Develop problem-solving skills through coordinated teamwork.
5. Evaluate environmental education using appropriate tools for each role.
6. Encourage responsible participation in society.
At the end of the event, Eco-Bahia gifted native and ornamental plants to participants to plant at their workplaces, fostering the care of these species.
* Raise awareness about environmental problems and promote solutions.
* Educate society about the importance of the environment and the balance between humans and nature.
* Instill environmental values and develop skills to address ecological challenges.
* Monitor ecosystem changes to detect problems early.
* Encourage societal participation and hold governments accountable for environmental actions.
Katia Cordourier concluded: “This is an excellent opportunity for everyone to contribute to protecting our environment. This is precisely the philosophy we promote through the we are ecocentric movement, showing that small individual actions can achieve great goals.”
