On the occasion of World Migratory Bird Day, the Eco-Bahia foundation organized a special event aimed at guests of the Bahia Principe Grand La Romana hotel to raise awareness about the importance of conserving migratory birds and their vital role in maintaining global ecological balance.
The day began with an educational talk led by an ornithology expert, who explained the fascinating phenomenon of bird migration, the challenges these species face during their long journeys, and the importance of preserving natural ecosystems to ensure their survival.
During the activity, participants learned about the most common migratory bird species in the region, such as the Petigre (Tyrannus dominicensis), Cigua Palmera (Dulus dominicus), Chinchilin (Quiscalus niger), and Carpintero (Melanerpes striatus), and how each contributes to local biodiversity.
Guests also enjoyed an eco birdwatching tour, where they applied their new knowledge by identifying these species in their natural habitat, fostering a deeper connection with nature.
This initiative reinforces Grupo Piñero’s commitment to environmental education and sustainable tourism by promoting experiences that raise visitors’ awareness about the importance of protecting migratory birds and their habitats.
Through activities like this, Eco-Bahia and Bahia Principe Grand La Romana aim to inspire more people to actively participate in environmental conservation, ensuring a healthy future for these species and our planet.
