Commitment to Recycling

On May 17 we joined World Recycling Day, reaffirming our commitment to the environment. Since 2016, Eco-Bahia and Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts have promoted more responsible waste management by implementing a Selective Management System in all hotels.

Thanks to this project, waste sent to landfills has been significantly reduced: more than 10,000 tons, an amount equivalent to a one-meter-high layer covering an area the size of two football fields.

Progress in Sustainability

In 2019, this commitment was extended to all business units and workspaces of the Group. Recycling bins were installed in offices, training programs were reinforced, internal audits increased, and data collection and analysis were optimized.

The hotel division increased its recycling rate by 7.5%, reaching 3,900 tons of recovered waste: 580 tons of plastic, 2,200 tons of glass, 660 tons of paper and cardboard, 155 tons of metal, 214 tons of oil, and 55 tons of hazardous waste.

Path Towards Zero Waste

As part of the circular economy, 2021 marked the beginning of a new stage toward the goal of Zero Waste. The approach is to stop talking about waste and start viewing it as resources.

The first step was taken by partnering with a waste recovery company in Tenerife to generate biogas from organic hotel waste. This biogas will be used in operations, closing the energy recovery cycle.

Recycling for a Healthy Future

A healthy environment directly impacts people’s well-being and health. The quality of the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat depends on the conservation of our surroundings.

Recycling is a key tool to protect natural resources and move toward a more sustainable model for the benefit of all.
