Water for Peace: A Global Reflection from a Local Perspective
The Eco-Bahia foundation organized a Conscious Cinema Series in Chemuyil, Tulum, as part of World Water Day 2025, which this year carries the theme “Water for Peace” and focuses efforts on glacier conservation.
The event, held in collaboration with partners from Bahia Principe Riviera Maya Resort, featured the documentary Our Planet: Frozen Worlds, an audiovisual piece that showcases the majesty and fragility of frozen ecosystems in the face of global warming.
Glaciers are vital reservoirs of freshwater and key pillars in the global water balance. However, they are at risk due to climate change and rising temperatures.
In Mexico, the Jamapa Glacier on Pico de Orizaba—the country’s last glacier—could disappear within the next 35 years, directly impacting more than 2.5 million people who depend on it for their water supply.
“Environmental conservation is a shared responsibility. Only by understanding can we respect and protect the life around us. It is urgent to act to defend glaciers and guarantee water for future generations,” said Luis Verdin, manager of the Eco-Bahia foundation in Mexico.
Through initiatives like this cinema series, the Eco-Bahia foundation strengthens its ongoing environmental education program, promoting:
• Reduction of carbon emissions
• Sustainable habits in daily life
• Increased awareness about climate change
Their participation in the United Nations global campaign reaffirms Grupo Piñero and Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts’ commitment to environmental protection, demonstrating that local actions can generate global impact.
The Eco-Bahia foundation invites the community to learn, act, and join in conserving natural resources.
